TODAY I LEARNED OF PATTYS PASSING AND I WOULD CONSIDER HER MY FIRST TRUE GIRLFRIEND.  OUR RELATIONSHIP STARTED AT JORDAN AND AS THEY SAY IT WAS SHORT BUT SWEET.  IT IS HARD TO EXPRESS THE MANY FEELINGS FOR HER I HAVE AT THIS TIME, BUT AT LEAST I HAVE THE WONDERFUL MEMORIES OF HER AND HER BROTHER AND SISTER AND FAMILY.    3/23/13

Patty and her family lived on Webster Street and we used to play dolls and dress up together during our elementary school years. Her large family of siblings was so different from mine and I remember they had an Irish nanny who tucked us in the night I slept over. When she asked "have you said your prayers?" I wondered what she was talking about! I often wonder what happened that took Patty from us or what happened to the rest of the Corlett family.

Patty married Ken Edwards '62, who worked for many years as a fireman.  They had several children and lived around the corner from us in North Palo Alto.  Patty was thrown from a vehicle during an accident, causing severe brain trauma.  Tragically, she emerged from a coma a changed person and could no longer cope as mother and wife.  She and Ken eventually separated.  About twenty years ago, when I was a photographer for the Palo Alto Weekly, I was sent to a local  shelter to photograph a woman for a story on homelessness:  when I walked in, there was Patty.  It was heartbreaking to see the transformation and know that the change  was beyond her control, to see clearly how our personalities, our very being, is so dependent on subtle and fragile brain functions.

I wish you were still with us, adorable Patty.
